Congo River

Congo River (also known as Zaire River) is the deepest river in the world, measured by the depth of more than 230 m (750 ft). [2] [3] This isis the second largest river in the world with the volume of waste water ,although only one-fifthvolume of the world'slargest river ,the Amazon . In addition, the overall length of 4700 km (2920 mi), making the tenth longest river.

Its drainage basin covers 4,014,500 square kilometers (1.55 million sq mi) discharge mouth of the Congo in the range from 23,000 cubic meters per second (810,000 cu ft / s). for 75,000 cubic meters per second (2.6 million cu ft / s), with an average of 41,000 cubic meters per second (1.4 million cu ft / s).

Rivers and streams flow through the tropical forests of the Congo, the second largest rain forest in the world, second only to the Amazon Rainforest in South America. River flow also has the second largest in the world, behind Amazon, the third largest drainage basin of any river, behind the Amazon and Rio de la Plata river, and is one of the deepest river in the world, at depths greater than 230 m (750 ft). river flow is slightly larger than the Mississippi. Because large parts of the watershed is located above and below the equator, the flow is stable, because there is always at least one section of the river experiencing the rainy season.

Congo gets its name from the ancient Kingdom of Kongo which inhabited the land at the mouth of a river. Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Congo, both countries lying along the banks of the river, is named after it. Between 1971 and 1997, the government calls it-Zaire River Zaire.

Source of Congo are in the highlands and mountains of East Africa Rift, as well as Lake Tanganyika and Lake Mweru, which takes Lualaba River, which then becomes the Congo below Boyoma Falls. Chambeshi River in Zambia is generally taken as the source of the Congo in line with accepted practice around the world using the longest tributary, like the River Nile.

Congo generally flows to the north of Kisangani just below Boyoma falls, then gradually bending to the southwest, past the Mbandaka, joining with the Ubangi River, and walked into the Pool Malebo (Stanley Pool). Kinshasa (formerly Leopoldville) and Brazzaville are on opposite sides of the river at the Pool, where the river narrows and falls through a number of cataracts in the canyons (collectively known as the Livingstone Falls), running with Matadi and Boma, and into the sea in the small town of Muanda.

Congo River Basin is one of the distinct physiographic sections of the Mid-African province of the larger, which in turn is part of a larger physiographic division of Africa.
